Efco Square Candle Mould – Casting Candles with a Square Cross-Section
With the Efco square candle mould, you cast candles as rectangular blocks with a square cross-section. The plastic mould measures 105 × 60 × 60 mm and is sold individually. It produces pillar candles with flat sides, which you can leave plain, colour or decorate after casting.
The mould withstands a maximum of 65 °C. This matters when choosing your wax: use a wax that you can pour at this temperature or below. Wax that has to be worked at a higher temperature is not suitable for this mould.
Casting a candle in the mould
A little preparation gives an even cast. The mould's temperature limit determines how hot your wax may be.
- Melt the wax in a water bath and check it with a thermometer. The temperature when pouring must not exceed 65 °C.
- Centre the wick before pouring, for example on a stick laid across the opening.
- Pour the wax in slowly and let it cool completely before you remove the candle from the mould.
- As wax cools it contracts, and a dip often forms around the wick. Top up with a little more wax.
