Glazes for earthenware from 1020 to 1100 °C
Earthenware glazes are fired at 1020 to 1100 °C and are matched to clay bodies that are fired at lower temperatures than stoneware. Here you'll find color and effect glazes for earthenware, including products from Botz, Duncan and Mayco, for school, hobby and workshop.
What to know before you glaze
It's important that the clay body and glaze match the same firing range, in this case around 1020–1100 °C. If it's fired much higher, it can run too much. The selection ranges from transparent and classic color glazes to effects such as crackle or metallic shimmer.
Depending on the product, they're applied by brushing, dipping or spraying. Several coats usually give a more even, opaque color, and the recommended number is listed with each item. Whether a glaze is suitable for tableware or dishwasher safe varies by product. Check the manufacturer's information for each item before you glaze mugs or plates.
- Glazes for the 1020–1100 °C firing range
- Transparent, color and effect glazes
- Application by brushing, dipping or spraying
- For decorative objects, school projects and, depending on the product, functional ware
Tip: Keep the foot and the lower edge of the piece free of glaze so nothing melts onto the kiln shelf during firing.
