Needle and hook sets for getting started and gifting

Knitting needle and crochet hook sets in several sizes

Knitting needle and crochet hook sets bundle several sizes or types of needles in one pack. If you work with yarn regularly, sooner or later you'll need many different sizes, and a set is a good way to get started, add to your supplies or give as a gift. The sets come in wood, bamboo, stainless steel and plastic.

Which set suits your projects

When it comes to material, your yarn is the main deciding factor. Wood and bamboo slightly slow slippery yarns and feel warm in the hand, stainless steel glides quickly and suits grippy wool, and plastic is light and comfortable in large sizes. Also check the size range in the set. For beginners, medium sizes between about 3.5 and 6 mm are the most versatile, because they work with many common yarns.

• Crochet hook sets for fine cotton yarn to thick wool
• Circular needle sets for sweaters, shawls and hats
• Double-pointed needle sets for socks, gloves and small circumferences
• Sets of straight needles for scarves, blankets and flat pieces

Tip: If you're giving a set as a gift and don't know which sizes are already on hand, a wide size range is the safe choice. Put the needles back in order right after knitting, and you'll find every size at a glance.
