Acrylic paint for canvas, wood and craft projects

Acrylic paint in artist and craft grades

Acrylic paints can be thinned with water, dry quickly and are water-resistant once dry. You can use them on canvas, paper, cardboard, wood or stone, opaque or thinned like a glaze. Here you'll find acrylic paints in tubes, bottles and sets for school, crafts and painting.

How to find the right acrylic paint

Artist acrylics have a high pigment content and strong colors and suit painting on canvas. Student and craft acrylics cost less and are good for practice, school and decor projects. A set with several basic colors is a good start, and you can add individual shades later. Besides matte paints, there are glossy and metallic shades.

Because acrylic dries quickly, only put as much paint on your palette as you can use in a short time. If you want to work wet-in-wet for longer, retarders mixed into the paint help. For pouring, texture painting and mixed media, check the product information on consistency and suitability.

Tip: Mist the paint on your palette with a little water from a spray bottle now and then to keep it workable longer. Wash brushes right after painting, before the paint dries on.
