Efco head pins 50 mm – pins with a head for jewellery and bead chains
Efco head pins (also called flat head pins) are used in jewellery making to join beads and chain elements. At one end, each pin has a small flat plate as a head, which stops the bead from slipping off. The pack contains 100 pieces. Choose your colour from the options.
At 50 mm long, there is enough pin left to bend an eye after threading on the bead. The pin thickness of 0.75 mm is intended for beads with a suitably large hole. The head measures 1.5 mm: the hole in the bead must therefore be larger than the pin, but smaller than the head.
Joining beads with head pins
Thread the bead onto the pin until it rests against the head. Bend the pin at a right angle directly above the bead and trim it to about 8 to 10 mm with side cutters. Roll the end into an eye with round-nose pliers. Before closing it, attach the chain element. This makes a movable bead pendant or a link for a chain.
Things to watch
Before you start, check that the bead hole suits the pin. If it is smaller than 0.75 mm, the pin will not go through. If it is larger than 1.5 mm, the bead will slip over the head. Bend the eye in one movement, as repeated bending back and forth can weaken the wire.
