Caran d'Ache 849 COLORMAT-X Line Mechanical Pencil, Blue, 0.7 mm

Caran d'Ache 849 COLORMAT-X in blue – mechanical pencil with eraser and 0.7 mm lead

The Caran d'Ache 849 COLORMAT-X Line mechanical pencil in blue is a lead holder with a refillable 0.7 mm HB graphite lead for note-taking, writing and sketching. The hexagonal aluminium barrel is light and hard-wearing, with a satin, micro-blasted finish. The hexagonal shape sits comfortably in the hand and stops the pencil rolling off the desk. It is designed and made by Caran d'Ache in Switzerland.

The metal clip and metal push button hold the pencil to a notebook, shirt pocket or document folder and are made for everyday use. The manufacturer also lists the pencils in the 849 range as personalisable, so you can have them engraved.

Using the lead holder

Press the button to advance the lead bit by bit. The 0.7 mm HB lead draws a medium-fine, clearly legible line and suits both writing and sketching. Extend the lead only as far as you need, as a lead that sticks out far is more likely to break under pressure. The eraser sits under the push button, with a compartment for spare leads of Ø 0.7 mm beneath it, so you always have a refill with you.

Choosing a colour

Besides blue, the COLORMAT-X Line is also available in turquoise, yellow, green, pink, violet and orange. According to the manufacturer's website, the colours do not differ in their technical properties, so you can choose whichever you like.
