Staedtler Mars 502 lead pointer for 2 mm clutch pencil leads

Staedtler Mars 502 – lead pointer for 2 mm clutch pencil leads with automatic stop

The Staedtler Mars 502 lead pointer sharpens 2 mm leads for clutch pencils and mechanical pencils. A metal lead file shapes the lead to the angle you want. Because the lead is filed rather than cut, fine points are possible.

The automatic stop ends the sharpening as soon as the point is finished. You set the point length using the measuring gauge on the lid. Two measuring ranges on the lid show how far the lead should project from the pencil, depending on whether you want a sharp or a flattened point. A built-in dust wiper removes graphite dust from the freshly sharpened lead.

Sharpening your lead

Let the lead project from the pencil only as far as the measuring opening on the lid indicates. A lead pushed out too far is more likely to break during sharpening.

• Set the lead to the right length at the measuring range on the lid
• Place the pencil in the sharpening opening
• Turn the lid until the stop signals the end
• Wipe excess dust off the lead on the dust wiper

Which pencils does the lead pointer suit?

The pointer is designed for leads with a diameter of 2 mm, that is, for clutch pencils and mechanical pencils with this lead size. It is not suitable for thinner leads, for example 0.5 mm.
