White PUL fabric – waterproof, breathable and bi-stretch
This white PUL fabric is a bi-stretch specialist knit for hygiene textiles where a waterproof layer matters. The backing is 100% polyester and the moisture barrier layer is 100% polyurethane. The fabric is soft and gentle on the skin, stretches in both directions and is 140 cm wide.
With a water column of over 3000 mm (DIN ISO 811) it is waterproof and at the same time water-vapour permeable: approx. 500 g/m² per day (DIN 53122, climate B). It is bacteria-proof and virus-proof, hydrolysis-resistant, steam-sterilisable and resistant to blood, urine, oils and fats. The surface can be wiped down with all common disinfectants.
What you can use PUL fabric for
The fabric is suitable for sewing projects where moisture needs to be held back, such as hygiene and care textiles, pads and waterproof bags. Because it is hydrolysis-resistant and steam-sterilisable, it also stands up to frequent cleaning.
Sewing with PUL
Every puncture leaves a hole in the moisture barrier layer. It is therefore better to hold the fabric with sewing clips than with pins.
- Use a needle for stretch or jersey fabrics, as the fabric is bi-stretch.
- Sew with a slightly longer stitch length so that the needle holes are not too close together.
- Make a test piece first to set the thread tension and stitch length.
