Prym half-moon shoulder pads XL in black – for set-in sleeves

The Prym half-moon shoulder pads in size XL and black are crescent-shaped sew-in pads. You use them in jackets, blazers, suits or knitted garments with set-in sleeves to shape the shoulder area and emphasise the silhouette. Prym intends them to be sewn in between the lining and the outer fabric, so they stay invisible.

The pack contains one pair (2 pieces) on a retail card, so both shoulders are covered. The pads are washable up to 30 °C, which matters if the garment will later go in the machine. The same pads are also available in white: black suits dark fabrics, so the pad does not show through.

Sewing in the shoulder pads

First pin the pad in place from the inside along the shoulder seam and try the garment on before you sew anything. That way you can see whether the shoulder sits well and the pad does not extend too far into the sleeve or towards the neck. Then fix it between the lining and the outer fabric with a few stitches at the shoulder seam and at the armhole seam. For unlined knitted pieces, sew the pad loosely to the seam allowance from the inside.

When is size XL right?

At approx. 115 × 185 × 17 mm, the XL pads are intended for stronger shoulder lines, for example in blazers, jackets and suits. Measure the shoulder width of your pattern beforehand and compare it with the dimensions of the pad, so that it does not extend beyond the seam.
