Prym Elastic-Band heavy-duty black elastic – for threading through and stitching on

The Prym Elastic-Band heavy-duty in black is a sewing elastic for skirt and trouser waistbands, pyjamas and many other sewing projects in clothing and home textiles. You can thread it through a casing or stitch it on directly. The elastic keeps its shape when stretched, does not curl up thanks to the woven construction and does not dig in. According to Prym, it is washable up to 60 °C and tumble dryer safe. The 10 m comes on a cassette, so you can cut several pieces from one roll.

The heavy-duty elastic is available in widths of 18, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 50 mm. Choose the width from the options.

Using the elastic

To thread it through a waistband casing or hem, attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic and pull it through the casing. Overlap the ends of the elastic and sew them together before you close the opening. The casing should be slightly wider than the elastic so that it does not twist. To stitch it on, for example to a waistband or a wide waist belt, sew with a stretch stitch such as zigzag stitch and stretch the elastic slightly as you sew.

Which width should you choose?

Use narrow widths for hems and lightweight pyjama bottoms. For waistbands that need to give plenty of support and for wide waist belts, choose a wider version. A test piece on your fabric shows you how firmly the elastic sits in the casing.
