Queensland Llama Lace Naturals – soft fingering yarn made from baby llama

Queensland Llama Lace Naturals is a fine yarn made from 100% baby llama (Extrafine Baby Llama) for knitting and crocheting lightweight shawls, scarves and accessories. It feels very soft on the skin. The Naturals range comes in undyed natural shades. One skein weighs 100 g and has a length of approx. 383 m, so you can plan the amount for your project easily from the yardage given in your pattern.

In spite of “Lace” in the name, the yarn is fingering weight (4 ply). It is therefore somewhat thicker than a classic lace-weight yarn and suits patterns written for fingering or sock yarn.

Suitable projects

Llama yarn is smooth and soft with a lovely drape. That makes Llama Lace a good choice for shawls, scarves, headbands and lightweight tops or jumpers in fingering weight. The Naturals range is solid colour, so stitch patterns such as lace patterns, rib or cables show up well. With the recommended needle size of 2.25–3.25 mm you get a fine, supple fabric. Larger needles give a more open result.

Before you knit

The yarn comes as a skein and needs to be wound into a ball before use, otherwise the yarn will tangle. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. If you need several skeins, buy them together where possible, as the shades of undyed natural fibre can differ slightly from one lot to the next.
