Tips for painting and covering cardboard

Cardboard absorbs moisture and can warp if you apply very wet paint. So work with acrylic paint in several thin coats and let each coat dry well. Priming with white acrylic paint or gesso keeps brown or printed surfaces from showing through and makes colors look brighter. For decoupage, use decoupage glue, which, depending on the product, also serves as a protective coat once dry. If you want to cover the box with fabric or paper, cut the material slightly larger and fold the edges inward. You can see which shapes and sizes are available with each item.
