Décopatch PappArt Butterfly, Papier-Mâché Blank, 22 × 25 cm

Décopatch Papier-Mâché Butterfly to Cover and Paint

The Décopatch PappArt butterfly is a brown papier-mâché blank that you can cover, paint or decorate. It becomes a decorative piece, a character for stories or, according to the manufacturer, a playmate for a child. The butterfly measures 22 × 25 × 4 cm.

Décopatch makes it by hand, so every piece is one of a kind. Small variations in shape and size are normal.

Decorating the butterfly

The brown papier-mâché surface gives you several options. You can cover the butterfly with Décopatch paper, paint it with acrylic paint, decorate it with glitter or stickers, or leave it natural for a kraft look. For the paper technique, tear or cut the paper into small pieces, brush glue onto the blank, lay the pieces on so that they overlap slightly and smooth them down with glue or varnish. Lay the paper over the edges and the rim of the wings so that no brown patches show through.

Paint or paper?

With paper you get patterns in a single step. With acrylic paint you decide on the colour gradients and markings yourself. Light colours often only cover the brown surface after a second coat.
