The FIMO kids Form & Play Set from Staedtler is a modelling kit with oven-bake modelling clay: you shape play figures following step-by-step instructions, harden them in the oven and then play on the matching background scene. The set contains 4 blocks of FIMO kids of 42 g each, a modelling tool, the instructions and the scene.

The modelling clay is particularly soft and easy to knead and shape. Once hardened, the figures are sturdy and can be played with. The set is available in several designs and in three levels of difficulty; the mix of colours in the blocks depends on the design.

Working with the set

Read the instructions first and have the blocks ready. Knead each colour briefly until it is pliable, then shape the parts step by step following the instructions. Use the modelling tool to add details and press parts into place. Join individual parts by pressing them firmly together. Place the finished figures on baking paper and harden them in the oven at 110 °C for approx. 30 minutes. It is best to check the oven temperature with an oven thermometer, as too much heat can discolour the clay. Let the figures cool completely before placing them on the scene.

Which set is right for you?

The designs are divided into three levels of difficulty. Easy designs are Farm, Pet, Butterfly and Monster. Medium designs are Dino, Pony, Seaworld, Savannah, Waterhole, Polar, Cat, Space Monster, Snow Princess and Unicorn. Hard designs are Princess, Mermaid and Pirate. If you are working with oven-bake modelling clay for the first time, start with an Easy design; with Hard designs you should expect more individual parts and details.
