Botz 9222 Granitbraun liquid glaze – dark, rustic blackish brown for earthenware

Botz liquid glaze 9222 Granitbraun is a ready-to-use brush-on glaze for earthenware ceramics. It gives a very dark, silky blackish brown with slight effects and a rustic look. The glaze is opaque and plain-coloured, so the colour of your clay body does not show through.

The firing range is 1020–1060 °C. You can also fire the glaze up to 1100 °C. It therefore suits earthenware clays fired in this temperature range.

Application

The glaze is ready to use and is applied to bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should have reached at least 950 °C.

• Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramic with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
• Fire in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C; firing up to 1100 °C is also possible

Firing and choosing a glaze

A test tile made from your own clay will show you beforehand how dark the brown turns out at your firing temperature. Leave the base unglazed so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf. Granitbraun is the calm, dark variant among the Botz liquid glazes for earthenware. If you prefer a sparkle effect, take a look at 9224 Aventurin. For a light beige with brown speckles, there is 9221 Vogelei.
