Botz Engobe 9046 Mittelblau – opaque, matt engobe for ceramics

Botz liquid glaze 9046 Engobe Mittelblau is a liquid, opaque engobe in medium blue for colouring ceramics. Apply it with a brush or slip trailer to leather-hard to dry, unfired or bisque-fired clay. Without a glaze, the surface turns an earthy matt. The engobe is stable across a firing range of 900 to 1100 °C and is fired at approx. 1050 °C.

It works well for sgraffito, where you scratch patterns through the layer of colour into the clay. It is also suitable for marbling and feathering techniques. For these, use the engobe slightly thinned on dampened, bisque-fired or leather-hard clay.

Application

Stir the engobe thoroughly before use. Apply two to three coats so that the colour is opaque. Left unglazed, the surface stays matt and earthy. For a stronger colour intensity, apply a thin overglaze of Botz 9106 Transparent glänzend.

Other uses

Besides painting, the engobe can be used in other ways:

• Mixed with Botz 9450 (30% engobe, 70% glaze): makes a coloured glaze with a satin finish and fine speckles; apply three coats
• Can be used as casting slip for small objects: fire at 1050 °C, after which it vitrifies and is frostproof
