The Herbin Lys sealing wax set contains everything you need to close letters, invitations or gift wrapping with a wax seal: two wax sticks in red and ivory, plus a seal with a dark lacquered wooden handle and the fleur de lys (lily) motif. The set is made in France and also makes a gift for anyone wanting to try traditional sealing.

The brass seal head has a diameter of 24 mm and screws onto the wooden handle. The wax sticks have a wick, so you can melt them directly over the flame. With two colours, you can choose between classic red and soft ivory depending on the occasion.

How to make a wax seal

First, screw the seal head firmly onto the wooden handle. Light the wick of the wax stick and hold the stick at a slight angle over the spot where the seal is to go, for example the centre of the envelope flap. Let the wax run into a round pool slightly smaller than the seal. Then place the seal on straight, press down lightly and wait a few seconds before lifting it off. If the pool is too small, the motif will be incomplete; too much wax will spill over the edge.

Red or ivory?

Red looks classic and stands out immediately on white and kraft paper. Ivory suits pale papers, wedding stationery or understated packaging. You can also use the wax sticks with other seals.
