The da Vinci Kagalovska BLACK & WHITE SIGNATURE EDITION watercolour brush (series 11492) is a round wash brush for watercolour painting. It was created in collaboration with fashion illustrator Victoria Kagalovska. The extra-soft synthetic fibres are springy and hold plenty of paint, so you can paint longer strokes and soft gradients with a single dip.

The brush is shaped by hand in Germany and traditionally bound with wire. The fibres are set in a plastic ferrule, and the handle is short and lacquered black. According to da Vinci, it is vegan and comes singly in a transparent BIO-PET pack.

Working with the wash brush

Briefly dampen the brush in clean water before painting and wipe off excess water on the rim of the pot. Then pick up paint. For soft gradients, start on damp paper and let two colours run into each other. For fine lines and details, work with the tip on dry or only slightly damp paper. The high elasticity of the fibres helps you reshape the tip after every stroke.

Choosing a size and caring for the brush

Choose the size from the options. Smaller round brushes suit details and fine lines, larger ones suit broader areas and colour gradients. The series is also available as a set of three brushes. After painting, rinse the brush in clean water and leave it to dry lying flat, so that no water runs into the ferrule and the fibres keep their shape.
