The COSMOTOP-SPIN rigger from da Vinci's series 1280 is a pointed rigger brush for fine lines, details and lettering. The hair is extra-fine, medium-length, light brown synthetic fibre that is supple and holds paint well. You can use it to draw even, slender strokes, for example for branches, grasses, outlines or lettering. The brush is particularly suited to watercolour and silk painting.

The silver ferrule holds the fibres firmly in the handle. The short, red-lacquered hexagonal handle sits comfortably in the hand and is easy to control for fine work. Choose the size from the options.

Drawing long, even lines

Thanks to its medium-length hair, a rigger holds plenty of paint and releases it evenly over a long stroke. Thin the paint until it flows but does not drip. Dip the brush and wipe it only lightly on the palette so the tip stays fine. Draw the line in one stroke, guiding the brush from the wrist or arm rather than from the fingers. If you lift off slightly just before the end of the stroke, the line tapers to a point.

Choosing and caring for the brush

Series 1280 is available in several sizes. Smaller numbers give thinner lines for details and lettering, while larger numbers carry more paint and suit longer, bolder strokes. After painting, rinse the brush thoroughly in lukewarm water, shape the tip with your fingers and leave it to dry lying flat or hanging with the hair pointing down, not standing on its hair.
