Hahnemühle Black Bookmark Pad – make your own black bookmarks

The Hahnemühle Black Bookmark Pad is a pad of 20 sheets of deep black mixed-media paper for making your own bookmarks. The sheets are already cut to bookmark size, 5.5 × 20 cm, and glued at the top. You tear them off the pad without cutting. The paper weighs 250 gsm and is acid-free and vegan.

The black background makes light, opaque colours stand out strongly. It suits hand lettering, small illustrations, craft projects, workshops and handmade gifts.

What to use on black

Light, opaque media work best on the dark paper. Gel pens, metallic pens, markers, colouring pencils, gouache and acrylic paint are all suitable. Watercolour also works, best used opaque or metallic. Transparent colours and dark pens, on the other hand, almost disappear on the black background.

Making your bookmark

A narrow fabric strip along the spine holds the sheets together until you detach them. Create your design and let the colour dry completely before taking the sheet off the pad. Metallic pens and gel pens give fine lines and lettering, while gouache or acrylic cover larger areas.
