The Hahnemühle Andalucia watercolour pad in 30 × 40 cm contains 12 sheets of natural white watercolour paper at 500 gsm, for watercolour and other wet techniques. Hahnemühle describes the paper as very well suited to watercolour, washes, gouache, tempera and acrylic. According to Hahnemühle, the rough front has the texture and flow behaviour of genuine handmade paper, while the back is matt. You can paint on both sides.

The pad is glued on all four sides, so the sheets stay fixed while you paint. The paper is acid-free and highly age-resistant, which suits pictures you want to keep or frame.

Rough or matt side?

On the rough front, the paint settles into the hollows of the paper texture, which shows especially in glazes and gradients. The matt back gives a quieter look and is an alternative if you want less pronounced texture. With its heavy weight of 500 gsm, the paper absorbs a lot of water, so you can also work wet-on-wet.

Working with the pad

Paint directly on the pad and let the sheet dry completely before removing it. Because it is glued on all four sides, it stays fixed in the meantime. You can use the back for sketches and colour tests. If you are looking for a smaller size, the same pad is also available in 24 × 32 cm.
