DEKA Color Cristal – water-based high-gloss transparent paint

DEKA Color Cristal is a water-based, high-gloss transparent paint for crafting on glass, wood, paper, card, polystyrene, ceramics, stone, metal, films, plaster, metal foils and in model making. The jar contains 25 ml. Choose your colour from the options.

According to DEKA, the paint is lightfast, waterproof, gloss-stable and flexible. The shades can be mixed with one another, and you can thin them with water. On wood it works as a colour glaze, so the grain stays visible. You can also apply it with an airbrush.

Using Color Cristal

The surface must be dry and free of dust and grease. Stir the paint before use and apply it generously with a soft, dry hair brush.

• According to DEKA, a generous coat gives an even finish and good lightfastness; with a thin coat or heavily thinned paint, lightfastness drops rapidly.
• To thin, use max. 5 % water, for a spray gun approx. 20 % water.
• Clean brushes and tools immediately with cold water.

Drying and baking

The paint is touch-dry after 1 hour and fully dry after 3 days. Baking is optional and increases adhesion and scratch resistance: place the item in a cold oven no sooner than 2 days after painting, heat to 120 °C and switch off after 50 minutes. Leave it to cool in the oven. Only bake heat-resistant items – not acrylic glass or plastic, for example. If you apply several layers, bake each layer after 48 hours of drying before applying the next.

Painting tableware

According to DEKA, even after baking the paint is not acid-resistant or mechanically resistant. Do not paint tableware that is used every day. Tableware that is rarely used should only be painted if you then bake it; afterwards, clean it by hand only, with cold water and no washing-up liquid. Paint drinking vessels on the outside only, and plates only on the outer rim.
