The Faber-Castell Black Edition set of 36 contains 36 colouring pencils in a resealable black metal tin. The pencils have black wood and a Supersoft lead. They are intended for drawing, colouring and hatching, including on dark or coloured paper.

According to Faber-Castell, the lead is highly pigmented and lays down colour extra softly. The colours are vibrant, and you can build up areas with little pressure. Thanks to a special bonding process, the lead is break-resistant. According to the manufacturer, the wood comes from certified sustainable forestry.

Working with the Supersoft lead

Soft leads release a lot of colour, so light pressure is enough. Start with a light application and layer the colour in several coats to create gradients and blended shades. On dark or coloured paper, apply the colour a little more heavily so that it stands out from the surface. Sharpen the pencils with a sharp sharpener for triangular pencils and do not press down while sharpening, so that the soft lead does not break. The pencils are not water-soluble, so the colour cannot be blended with water and a brush.

The Black Edition is also available in metal tins of 12 or 24 with the same features. The set of 36 offers a wide choice of shades. This means you can often draw gradations and transitions directly with individual pencils instead of mixing a lot.
