Faber-Castell PITT artist pen set of 4 – black ink pens in four line widths

The Faber-Castell PITT artist pen wallet of 4 (art. no. 167115) contains four black ink pens for sketches, drawings, layouts, fashion drawings and illustrations. The pens have line widths of XS (0.1 mm), S (0.3 mm), F (0.5 mm) and M (0.7 mm). This lets you draw fine details and bolder outlines with a single set.

The ink is pigmented drawing ink. According to Faber-Castell, it is waterproof, permanent, odourless and particularly lightfast. It is also acid-free and pH-neutral and does not bleed through the paper. That makes the pens suitable for thinner paper and sketchbooks too.

Which line width for what?

The four nibs cover the range from very fine to bold. Use XS at 0.1 mm for the finest details, hatching and small lettering. S at 0.3 mm suits outlines and lines of medium fineness. F at 0.5 mm and M at 0.7 mm give bolder lines and emphasise outlines or foregrounds. If you vary the line width within a drawing, the picture looks more three-dimensional. Working with the ink

Sketch in pencil first, then go over the lines with the ink pens. Only erase the pencil lines once the ink is completely dry, otherwise it will smudge. As the ink is waterproof and permanent, you can then colour the dry drawing with watercolours or marker pens without the lines running. Lines cannot be corrected, so plan the composition in pencil beforehand.
