The Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen Brush case of 12 grey tones contains ink pens with a brush tip for sketches, fashion drawings, illustrations and layouts. The ink is pigmented and lightfast. The flexible, shape-retaining brush tip draws fine lines and fills larger areas.

With twelve matched grey tones, you can build up shading, highlights and gradients without switching between different types of pen. According to Faber-Castell, the ink is odourless, permanent and waterproof, acid-free and pH-neutral. It does not bleed through the paper.

Working with the grey tones

The brush tip responds to pressure: light pressure gives fine lines, more pressure gives broader strokes and areas. For soft gradations, lay in the light tones first and work the darker ones over them. Hatching and cross-hatching add extra depth. The ink is permanent and cannot be erased, so sketch in pencil first if the line has to be exactly right. Because it is waterproof, you can go over it with watercolours once it has dried.
