Schmincke Norma Professional oil paint set – 8 colours as a basic palette

The Schmincke set contains 8 tubes of Norma Professional oil paint, 20 ml each, 160 ml in total. It is intended as a basic palette for oil painting: with Titanium White, Ivory Black, a yellow, two reds, a blue, a green and an ochre, you cover the main colour ranges and mix further shades yourself. The set suits beginners and advanced painters.

Norma Professional is a classic oil paint with a creamy, buttery consistency, made in Germany. The formulation contains many renewable raw materials, and according to the formulation the binders are purely vegetable oils, including linseed and sunflower oil. The paints are traditionally ground on a three-roll mill and left to mature for three months before filling. All colours have the highest lightfastness. Thanks to the high pigment concentration, a little paint goes a long way.

What you can mix with this palette

With Zitronengelb, Kadmiumrot mix, Krapprot and Preußischblau, the set covers the three primaries plus a second red. From these you can mix orange, green and violet shades. Titanium White lightens and covers, Ivory Black darkens. Chromoxidgrün and Lichter Ocker natur complete the palette for landscapes, skin tones and earth tones. All the colours can also be mixed with other oil paints.

Building up the painting

The paints can be used for glazing as well as for impasto application. Begin with thin, lean layers, that is, with more thinning, and work with increasingly fat layers in the upper coats, that is, with more painting medium or oil. This way the painting dries evenly and the surface does not crack. Put only small amounts on the palette: thanks to the high pigmentation, the paint goes a long way.

Rags, paper towels and brush residues soaked in oil can ignite spontaneously. After working, lay them out flat to dry or keep them in a closed metal container.
