Schmincke Norma Professional is an artists' oil paint of the finest quality for demanding oil painting, here in the 120 ml size. Choose your colour from the options. In 120 ml there are 48 colours from the range, which comprises 84 shades in total, including 27 transparent shades.

The paints have a creamy, buttery consistency and dry evenly. Schmincke grinds them with a high pigment concentration on three-roll mills and lets them mature for three months before filling. All shades have the highest lightfastness (4–5 stars), which matters for paintings that are meant to hang permanently. The paint is made in Germany and formulated with renewable raw materials such as purely plant-based oils. According to Schmincke, the oil combinations reduce the tendency to yellow.

Colours and choice

The range runs from classic and modern colours to special shades such as Mohnrot, Kobalttürkis, Achatbraun, Neutralschwarz, gold, silver and bronze. The chrome yellow shades and Schweinfurter Grünton are reproductions of the historic originals without their toxic pigments. Whether a shade is opaque or transparent differs from colour to colour. The 27 transparent shades are intended for glazes.

Working with Norma Professional

Schmincke recommends applying it in thin layers. For impasto or palette knife techniques, the manufacturer recommends Malbutter (50 034): it speeds up the drying through of thick layers and reduces the risk of cracking. Norma Professional can be combined without restriction with MUSSINI artists' resin oil paints and other oil paints. As with all oil painting, work in layers from lean to fat so that the paint does not crack. Rags and paper towels soaked in oil can ignite spontaneously as they dry; leave them spread out to dry or dispose of them in a closed metal container.
