Efco clear silicone oil – cells in acrylic pouring and release agent

Efco clear silicone oil is an additive for the pouring technique with acrylic paint and can also be used as a release agent. It is made of pure silicone oil and is used only drop by drop.

Silicone oil does not dissolve in the paint but separates it. As the colours flow, this creates the typical cells. The silicone oil comes in two sizes, 25 ml and 100 ml. Choose the size from the options: the smaller bottle is enough for trying out the technique, the larger one if you pour regularly.

Using it for pouring

Add the silicone oil to the mixed paint, ideally together with pouring medium, and stir it in only briefly. As an example, Efco gives 10–15 drops for 1–2 mixes in its craft tips. How much you need depends on the quantity of the mix, so start with a few drops.

• Do not add it to all the colours, otherwise the effect cancels out
• The dosage depends on the quantity of the paint mix
• Test the effect beforehand on a test piece

As a release agent

You can also use the silicone oil as a release agent, for example in mould making. Here too, apply it only drop by drop and in a thin layer.
