The Caran d’Ache Neopastel Extra-Fine Oil Pastels set of 96 (art. no. 7400.396) covers the entire Neopastel palette in 96 colours for drawing, sketching, illustration and mixed media. According to Caran d’Ache, the round pastels have a soft, velvety texture, contain extra-fine pigments and inert oil, and do not crumble.

The finish is matt, and the colours are opaque and water-resistant. Each colour is marked with its colour number and lightfastness rating, so you can find individual shades again and take lightfastness into account when choosing colours.

Working with the pastels

Use the tip for lines and details, the angled edge for broader strokes and the broad side to cover areas. The colours can be layered, blended and rubbed in with a finger (“fingerwork”), on many different surfaces. White spirit dissolves the pastel so that you can work in a painterly way, for example with a brush.

Which set to choose

Neopastel is also available as sets of 12, 24 and 48. The set of 96 contains the complete palette, including warm and cool greys, so every shade is immediately to hand. Smaller sets offer fewer shades, so you will do more mixing by layering and blending.
