The JAXELL soft pastels 48-piece set by Honsell contains 48 soft artist-quality pastel sticks for drawing, shading and blending. The sticks are highly pigmented and lay down colour softly, from fine detail to broad colour gradients. Each stick measures 10 × 10 × 64 mm. Use the edge of the square stick for fine lines and the broad side for filling areas.

Thanks to their soft consistency, the sticks blend easily and can be worked with water. You can also combine them with watercolour, red chalk or charcoal.

Working with soft pastels

Apply the colour in thin layers and blend transitions with your finger or a paper stump. Add light tones last, as highlights over darker areas. To work the pastel with water, use a damp brush and a paper that can take moisture, such as watercolour paper. Soft pastels are dusty and break easily. Work from top to bottom and place a sheet of paper under your hand so you do not smudge your work. If you blow loose dust off the sheet after drawing, make sure it does not land on your work surface.

Choosing a set
