Schmincke makes HORADAM watercolour paint with a high concentration of quality pigments, which sets it clearly apart from the manufacturer's AKADEMIE range. In practice, a high pigment content means that even a little paint in water gives a strong colour, so you can go from delicate glazes to bold washes.

Painting with pans

Before painting, moisten the pans with one or two drops of water and let them soften briefly. The paint then dissolves more easily and you can pick it up evenly with a wet brush. Mix your shades on a palette rather than directly in the pan, so the colours in the box stay clean. Rinse the brush well when changing colour and dab it briefly. After painting, let the paint dry completely in the box before you close it.

Choosing the right box

With 24 half pans you can mix many shades from the box itself and do not need to keep buying more. Half pans keep the box compact. The series also includes boxes with 12, 36 or 48 half pans, as well as sets with tubes. Tubes make sense if you paint large areas and want to mix a lot of paint at once.
