The Canson XL Croquis spiral sketchbook in A4 has 120 sheets for sketches, studies and drawings. The paper weighs 90 gsm and is ivory, acid-free and free of optical brighteners. It suits pencil, sanguine, charcoal and gouache. The paper has a finely grained surface and erases well.

The spiral runs along the long side. This makes the pages easy to turn, and you can use the pad lying flat open on a table or on your lap.

What the pad suits

At 90 gsm the paper is light but not thin. It suits quick sketches, gesture and perspective studies or notes on the move. Pencil, sanguine and charcoal allow good tonal gradation on the lightly grained surface. Apply gouache thinly and with little water. With very wet application, a light paper can cockle. For wet techniques and heavy opaque colour work, choose a heavier paper.

A4 or A5?

With 120 sheets, the A4 pad offers plenty of room for studies and larger subjects. The pad is also available in A5. It is smaller and better suited to carrying around.
