Canson XL Dessin Multitechnique – drawing pad for mixed media
The Canson XL Dessin Multitechnique is a spiral-bound drawing pad with 60 sheets of white 160 gsm paper. You can use it for sketches, studies and mixed-media work, whether you draw dry or occasionally work lightly with water.
The surface has a light grain. This gives pencil, coloured pencil and charcoal some tooth and keeps lines looking even. The paper is acid-free. The spiral binding makes it easy to turn the pages and keeps the pad open while you draw. Choose your size from the options.
What 160 gsm is suited to
At 160 gsm the paper is sturdier than basic sketching paper. It suits dry media such as pencil, coloured pencil, charcoal and ink pens, as well as markers, gouache and light watercolour washes. Apply watercolours sparingly and with little water, as a paper of this weight can cockle if it gets very wet. Test markers on a corner first to see whether they bleed through, and slip a sheet of paper underneath to protect the next page.
Choosing within the range
If you mostly work wet, for example with watercolour, gouache or acrylic, the heavier version with 300 gsm and 34 sheets is the better choice. The 160 gsm pad with 60 sheets is intended for everyday use: plenty of pages for practising, sketching and trying out different techniques.
