Metal, wood and soft-grip crochet hooks

Crochet hooks for every yarn and technique

Crochet hooks come in different sizes, lengths and materials, individually or as a set. Whether you're making amigurumi, potholders, fine doilies or accessories, the right hook lets you work more comfortably and evenly.

What to look for when buying crochet hooks

The recommended size is on the ball band of your yarn. Fine steel hooks are good for thin crochet thread and lace, thick hooks for tape yarn and baskets. Crochet hooks with an ergonomic soft grip take strain off your hand and fingers when you crochet a lot or for long periods. Metal is smooth and sturdy, while wood and bamboo are light and give more grip with slippery yarns. For amigurumi, a slightly smaller hook than recommended is usually chosen so the stitches are dense. For airy shawls, on the other hand, you can go one size up. If you crochet often, a set is worthwhile, because you can quickly change size if your gauge swatch doesn't match.

• Steel hooks for fine thread and lace
• Soft-grip hooks for long crochet sessions
• Wood and bamboo for slippery yarns
• Crochet hook sets for getting started

Tip: Let each loop slide onto the shaft of the hook instead of pulling it only over the narrower tip. That way the hook size determines the stitch size and all your stitches turn out the same.
