Karel the Crab – amigurumi knitting kit with yarn, eyes and stuffing

With the Karel the Crab knitting kit from Hardicraft (art. no. HC-41CK08), you knit an amigurumi crab of approx. 25 cm. The kit contains white and orange marl yarn, safety eyes, toy stuffing and the pattern. All you need to find are the knitting needles.

The marl yarns give Karel a lively colour effect, without you having to change colours or buy extra yarn. The pattern comes in four languages: German, Dutch, English and French. Karel was designed by Christel Krukkert.

What's in the kit and what's missing

The kit includes 50 g of white marl yarn and 50 g of orange marl yarn, plus 10 mm safety eyes and toy stuffing. That gives you all the materials for Karel. Only the knitting needles are missing: the manufacturer recommends 3.0 mm needles. A set of double-pointed needles or a short circular needle in this size is handy for small round parts such as the legs and claws.

Knitting the crab

Knit the pieces of the crab following the enclosed pattern, keeping your stitches fairly firm so that no stuffing shows through the fabric later. Insert the eyes before you stuff and close the figure, as you won't be able to reach the back afterwards. Stuff the body and legs gradually in small portions so that the shape comes out even. The size of approx. 25 cm applies to Karel; other animals in the Hardicraft range, such as Olivia Octopus or Willy Whale, have their own dimensions.
