addi Express Professional – knitting machine with 22 needles

With the addi Express (art. no. 990-2) you knit in the round or flat using a hand crank. In the round it makes tubes approx. 10–15 cm in diameter; flat, it makes pieces approx. 15–20 cm wide. You can use it to make snoods, socks, arm or leg warmers, cushions and panels for patchwork jumpers and waistcoats. The machine is designed for yarns that you would otherwise knit with needles of 4–8 mm.

Working with the addi Express

• Fix the machine to the table with the screw clamp supplied so that it does not slip while you turn the crank.
• Place the yarn in the yarn guide and turn the crank evenly.
• Keep an eye on the mechanical row counter so that matching pieces, such as sleeves or leg warmers, come out the same length.
• Finally, lift the stitches off the needles with the pick-up tool.

Which yarn is suitable? Go by the needle size of 4–8 mm given on the ball band of your yarn. On its website, addi also provides a yarn list with notes on fibre and material. Try out a new yarn on a short sample tube before starting a large piece.

Avoiding common mistakes: The addi Express is built to be cranked by hand – electric attachments or drives are not intended. Crank evenly and without jerking, and the stitches will be even too. If a needle is damaged, replace it with one of the spare needles supplied.
