Prym wooden French knitter – knit your own cords
The French knitter (also called a knitting dolly, knitting Nancy or spool knitter) from Prym for Kids is a craft tool for making knitted cords and tubes. The multicoloured wooden figure is 9 cm long and has four hooks made of rust-free steel wire, on which the stitches are formed. According to Prym, it is easy to use, including for children.
A blunt plastic needle is included for lifting the stitches over. All you need is yarn.
Knitting with the French knitter
Pass the end of the yarn down through the hole in the figure so that it hangs out at the bottom. Then wrap the yarn around each of the four hooks and wind a second round on top. Using the plastic needle, lift the lower loop over the upper one and over the hook. Repeat the wrapping and lifting, and the cord grows out of the bottom of the figure. Pull the cord down only gently so that the stitches stay even.
What you can make with it
You can use the finished cords for jewellery, decorations or small craft projects, for example as a bracelet or a hanging loop.
