Prym crochet hook gauge – find your hook size quickly

With the Prym crochet hook gauge you can work out the size of a crochet hook whose marking has worn off. Place the hook in one of the 13 measuring cut-outs and read off the size directly. The gauge covers metric hook sizes from 2 to 10 mm.

The US sizes are also given on the back. That helps if a pattern gives US sizes and your hooks are marked in metric, or the other way round.

How to find the hook size

Place the shaft of the crochet hook in the cut-outs and look for the size it fits without any play. Measure on the round part of the shaft, not at the head with the hook and not at the flat thumb rest, as the hook is wider there. If the hook just doesn't fit into a cut-out, use the next size up. Then turn the gauge over and read off the matching US size. At 67 × 93 mm, the gauge is small enough to keep in your hook case or craft bag.
