Glorex Granulex ultralight – lightweight polystyrene beads for dolls and soft toys

Glorex Granulex ultralight is a polystyrene (Styropor) filling in bead form for fabric dolls, teddy bears, soft toys, cushions and bean bags. The white beads are expanded, very light and approx. 3–5 mm in diameter. The beads come in 5 and 10 litres. Choose your size from the options.

The beads keep their shape and have an even grain size. Your project gains volume but stays light and gives softly when squeezed. This is useful if a soft toy or cushion is meant to feel loose and snuggly.

Filling dolls and soft toys

As the beads are very small, they should never be put loose into a fabric piece. First sew an inner bag from a tightly woven fabric, fill it and close it with a tight seam. Then place this bag inside your soft toy or cushion. That way nothing can trickle out through the seams, and you can open the cover more easily later.

• Fill the beads in with a funnel or a rolled-up paper bag so that less is spilled.
• Work on a smooth surface or over a cloth, as the beads easily build up static and cling to fabric and hands.
• Do not overfill the bag, so that the beads stay loose and shift when squeezed.
• A bag made of tightly woven fabric with a double seam keeps the beads securely inside.
