Moonshine Fine Hand Paints from Juniper Moon Farm is a hand-dyed, multicoloured gradient yarn for shawls, scarves, lightweight jumpers and fine accessories. It is the hand-dyed version of Moonshine Fine and is made of 30% baby alpaca, 30% wool, 25% polyamide (nylon) and 15% silk. The alpaca and silk blend makes the skein soft and gives it a fine sheen, while the polyamide helps the knitted fabric keep its shape.

Each skein weighs 100 g and has a length of 400 m (437 yds). With this length, you can easily work out how much you need for shawls and lightweight tops from the yarn requirements given in your pattern. Choose your colour from the options.

What the yarn is suited to

On 3.25–3.75 mm needles you knit a flowing, lightweight fabric. This suits shawls, scarves and lightweight jumpers where the colour gradient, sheen and softness are meant to show. Because the yarn is multicoloured, simple stitch patterns such as stocking stitch, rib or simple lace patterns show off best, while very intricate patterns easily get lost in the play of colour.

Working with the skein

The yarn comes as a skein and should be wound into a ball before knitting so that it does not tangle. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. With hand-dyed yarns, the colour distribution can vary slightly from skein to skein. If you need several skeins for one piece, it is best to knit alternately from two balls so that no visible colour lines form.
