YKK metal trouser zip, 14 cm – sturdy for jeans and bags

The YKK trouser zip with metal teeth is a closed-end zip, 14 cm (140 mm) long. You sew it into jeans, trousers, leather jackets and bags. With a chain width of 5 mm and a tape width of 30 mm, it suits heavier fabrics and items that see a lot of wear. Choose your colour from the options.

This range also includes the zip in 16 cm. Before buying, measure the opening in your pattern or on the garment you are repairing.

Inserting the zip

Metal teeth are hard, so fitting calls for a little care.

• Use a jeans needle or a strong needle and sew with a zip foot so that you can work close to the chain.
• Sew slowly, especially near the teeth and the slider. Do not sew into the metal teeth, as the needle may break.
• For thick layers of fabric, such as denim or leather, secure the zip beforehand with clips instead of pins.
