Cardboard learning clock – paint it yourself and practise telling the time

The cardboard learning clock to paint is a craft clock you decorate yourself and then use to practise reading the time. Paint the clock face however you like, and set hours and minutes with the movable hands. The clock is made of sturdy cardboard, measures 165 mm in diameter and stands up on its own with the stand supplied. Spare hands are included in case one gets lost or bent.

The clock is made in Germany. First you decorate it, then you use it for play and learning: anyone who has painted the clock themselves usually engages more closely with the numbers and hands.

Decorating the learning clock

Start by painting the clock face and let the paint dry completely before you assemble the clock. Colouring pencils, felt-tip pens or acrylic paint all work on cardboard. Do not apply the paint too wet, or the cardboard may warp. If you pick out the numbers and the five-minute intervals in different colours, the clock is easier to read.

Practising with the clock

Use the movable hands to set a full hour and read it out together. Half hours and quarter hours come next, and finally individual minutes. With the stand, the clock sits upright on the table while you practise.
