Beadalon WildFire 0.20 mm in Beige – braided beading thread for bead jewellery
Beadalon WildFire is a synthetic, braided and very supple jewellery thread with a smooth coating. You can use it to string and weave beads, for example Miyuki beads. This thread is 0.20 mm thick, has a breaking strength of 5.5 kg and comes in beige.
The coating is thermally bonded, so you do not need to pre-condition the thread before use. It is waterproof, colourfast and hardly stretches at all, so your work keeps its shape. According to Beadalon, the colour is rub-resistant and does not transfer to your fingers. The coating is so firm that the thread cannot even be pierced with a needle. That is handy when you pass back through the same beads or thread several times. WildFire is made in the USA.
What WildFire is used for
Beadalon lists bead weaving, bead embroidery, loom work and bead knitting as uses. The thread is stronger than fine beading threads, so it suits projects that need to withstand more tension. Beige is barely noticeable in light-coloured work and goes well with delicate bead colours.
Which thickness to choose
The WildFire range includes a 0.15 mm thread with 4.5 kg and a 0.20 mm thread with 5.5 kg breaking strength. The 0.20 mm thread is stronger. The 0.15 mm thread is thinner and is better if you need to pass through beads with a small hole several times. Test on one bead first to see how many passes are still comfortably possible. To make threading easier, flatten the end of the thread with flat-nose pliers.
