Kreul Foto Transfer Potch – transferring photos and laser prints

With Foto Transfer Potch from Kreul (art. no. 49951), you can transfer photos, printouts and laser photocopies as well as newspaper cuttings onto stretched canvas, wood, ceramic, porcelain, glass, metal, fabric and even candles – for photo gifts, pictures on wooden boards or home accessories, for example. The medium is water-based and dries transparent. Once the paper has been rubbed away, only the image remains on the surface.

How photo transfer works

• Print or copy the image in mirror image with a laser printer and cut it out
• Coat the surface and the printed side of the image generously with Transfer Potch
• Lay the image face down, press it on evenly with a squeegee and wipe away any excess that squeezes out with a cloth
• Leave to dry thoroughly, then dampen the paper and rub it off with your fingers or a damp cloth
• Finally, seal with a protective varnish

Avoiding common mistakes

Always print in mirror image, otherwise any lettering will appear back to front. Use laser prints or photocopies – the medium is designed for them. When pressing the image on, smooth it from the centre outwards so that no air bubbles remain; the image will not stick in those spots. Rub the paper off in several passes rather than too hard in one go, as too much pressure can remove the layer of colour as well. If a whitish haze appears after drying, paper fibres are still on the image – dampen it again and gently rub it a little more.

You will also need: a laser print or photocopy of your image, brush, squeegee, cloth and protective varnish. For candles, Kreul recommends its special candle varnish (art. no. 49971).
