The white fabric gives you a light background: colours look on it just as they do in the pot. Whether it's a pattern, a slogan or a picture, you can design your hat however you like, on your own or together at a craft session.

Painting the sun hat

Wash the hat once before painting, without fabric softener, and let it dry. This removes any residues from manufacturing, and the paint will take more evenly. If you like, sketch your design lightly in pencil first, and place cardboard or plastic sheeting inside the hat while you paint so the paint does not soak through to the back.
