The Basic modelling clay set from the Mini Kids series by Eberhard Faber contains four tubs in white, yellow, red and blue, each approx. 140 g. The clay is soft and easy to shape, which makes it a first modelling clay for nursery and pre-school children aged 3 and over. According to Eberhard Faber, the Mini Kids series has been developed specially for small children's hands.

Rolling, pressing and shaping help children practise their motor skills. You can mix the four basic colours together as you like to make new shades. The tubs can be closed again so the clay does not dry out, and the lids can be used as moulds.

Mixing colours and learning about colour

With just four colours, children learn through play how mixed colours are made. Knead two colours together until no streaks remain. Yellow and blue make green, red and yellow make orange, red and blue make purple. Add white to lighten any shade. Start by mixing small amounts: once colours are mixed, they cannot be separated back into the original colours.

Storage and play

After play, put each colour back in its tub and close the lid firmly so the clay stays soft. Use the lids as moulds to press simple shapes out of the rolled-out clay. For play you only need a smooth, wipe-clean surface.
