Botz 9612 Rot matt liquid glaze – strong, opaque red for earthenware
Botz 9612 Rot matt liquid glaze is a brush-on glaze for earthenware that gives ceramics a strong, opaque red. The finish is an even matt. The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C and, according to Botz, can be fired up to 1100 °C. This suits the firing ranges commonly used in hobby, school and art studios.
The 200 ml comes ready to brush on. Because the glaze is opaque, the clay body barely shows through. The red therefore depends less on the clay than with translucent glazes.
Application
The glaze is brushed onto ceramics that have already been bisque-fired. The bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C or above. Stir the glaze thoroughly before use so that the settled particles are evenly redistributed from the bottom of the container. If it is too thick, you can thin it with a little water.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with water if needed
- Apply to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush
- Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
- Then fire within the range of 1020–1060 °C
Firing and combining
According to Botz, coat thickness, temperature and kiln atmosphere affect the firing result. Stay within the stable range of 1020–1060 °C and apply as evenly as possible so that the matt surface looks uniform. The glaze can be combined with the Botz colours 9107, 9108 and 9487 to 9494, for example for decoration, rims or two-colour pieces. A test tile on your own clay will show you beforehand how the red looks in your kiln.
