Botz PRO 9314 Rauchquarz – grey liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware

Botz PRO 9314 Rauchquarz liquid glaze gives earthenware and stoneware a glossy, semi-transparent grey finish. It is ready to use and applied with a brush. With a firing range of 1020 to 1280 °C, you do not need two different glazes for earthenware and stoneware.

Botz PRO can also be combined with Botz Unidekor. The glaze is made in Germany.

How does Rauchquarz look at different temperatures?

The effect of Botz PRO glazes depends on the firing temperature, and this applies to the whole range. Rauchquarz gives a semi-transparent grey that varies depending on the firing:

• From 1020 °C (earthenware): coloured and almost opaque, apply 2 to 3 coats
• Around 1150 °C (early-vitrifying clays): the colour remains, the surface becomes more semi-transparent, apply 2 coats
• High firing up to 1280 °C (stoneware): glassy, semi-transparent surface in intense pastel shades
• Good results are also achieved on porcelain at 1250 °C

Application and preventing runs

Stir the glaze well before use and apply each coat evenly. Let each coat dry before applying the next. The glaze tends to run if applied thickly. Apply it more thinly towards the bottom of the piece and leave the foot unglazed. This keeps the kiln shelf clean. As the glaze is semi-transparent, the colour of your clay affects the result. A test tile made from your clay will show you beforehand how the shade looks on it.
