Botz stoneware glaze 9886 Creme gesprenkelt – glossy, opaque, with brown speckles

Botz stoneware glaze 9886 Creme gesprenkelt is a liquid, glossy stoneware glaze for ceramics, fired in the range 1220–1280 °C. It is opaque, cream in colour and shows small brown speckles. Applied very thinly, it looks reddish brown. The colour effect therefore depends on the thickness of the layer.

The tin contains 800 ml of ready-to-use glaze, enough for several pieces. At this high firing temperature, according to Botz, the stoneware becomes vitrified and frost-proof and does not absorb water.

Applying the glaze

The glaze is ready to use. Stir it thoroughly before applying, as the speckles and colour pigments settle at the bottom. Let each coat dry well before applying the next.

• Stir the glaze well
• Apply 2–3 coats with a brush, letting each coat dry well
• Leave the base unglazed, otherwise the piece will fuse to the kiln shelf during firing
• If you do not stand the piece on stilts, you protect the kiln furniture and shelf better

Firing and colour effect

The firing range is 1220–1280 °C. Botz recommends 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold. The surface becomes glossy. For an even cream white with visible brown speckles, do not glaze too thinly, as very thin areas look reddish brown. If you want exactly this effect, for example on edges or relief details, apply less glaze there deliberately. A test piece made from your own clay shows you beforehand how the glaze looks at your layer thickness.

Choosing a colour in the series

Botz offers further colours in the stoneware series, such as 9887 Cremeweiß or 9890 Türkisgranit. 9886 is the colour with brown speckles on a light, cream-coloured background. You can use it for bowls, mugs or decorative objects if you want a warm, light surface with a lively texture.
