Mayco Rapid Roll SG-102 Black – black pour-in interior glaze

Mayco Rapid Roll SG-102 Black is a ready-to-use black glaze for quickly glazing the inside of ceramics. You pour it in, swirl the piece around and then fire it. The glaze fires glossy and dries quickly. It is intended for greenware, earthenware and stoneware bisque. According to Mayco, Rapid Roll is dinnerware safe (Dinnerware Safe) when used as directed by the manufacturer.

The advantage over brush-on glaze: you do not need to thin the glaze or apply several coats when glazing the inside of a vessel. That saves time when you are glazing several pieces one after another, for example in a class or in the workshop.

Glazing with Rapid Roll

Shake the bottle well before use. Squeeze the amount you need into a cup or bowl and pour it into the piece. Turn and tilt it straight away until the inside is completely covered. It is best not to reuse glaze that has already been poured in and out, as it may be contaminated or its consistency may have changed.

Firing and colour

Mayco gives the firing range for SG-102 as cone 06–10. That corresponds to cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 10 (approx. 1285 °C, guide value per Orton chart). Fire within this range and follow the programme you normally use for your clay and your kiln.

Mixing and combining

You can mix Rapid Roll Black and Rapid Roll in white to obtain shades of grey, or use them together for marbled effects. Mayco advises against mixing with other products.
